How To Tell The Difference Between Frogspawn And Toadspawn?

In order to tell the difference between Frogspawn and Toadspawn you need to look at its shape. My pond is full of Frogspawn which should hatch in the next week or so

Frogspawn is laid in big clumps of jelly

Toadspawn forms in long strings of eggs, in thin ribbons, like a bead necklace, in deeper water on underwater plants

You can easily distinguish between the two once the tadpoles are hatched. A few weeks after hatching Frog tadpoles are mottled greenish-grey with gold speckles, whilst Toad tadpoles remain jet black
