This book is in my book pile as I went to listen to Alexandre Antonelli speak at Hay Festival. His passion is nature and his mission is to stop diversity loss and he is Professor of Science at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

 

Alexandre Antonelli spoke passionately about his new book, The Hidden Universe, Adventures in Biodiversity, and was expertly interviewed by Rosie Boycott. In his talk he spoke about the concept of biodiversity, why it matters and how we as individuals can work to preserve it

With simplicity and clarity Alexandre explained how biodiversity forms the network that underpins almost every aspect of our lives. And what is at stake, and what can be done, and what is already being done to protect and restore biodiversity around the world

A deeper understanding of biodiversity has never been more important as almost 1/5th of all species on Earth are now at the risk of extinction in the coming decades due to the loss of habitat

The message was clear. Preserving our biodiversity is the most important weapon in our battle against climate change. We are living in an environmental emergency and we must all do what we can, however small or insignificant each action might seem. Everyone has a role to play
