The design of the Prince of Wales Golfing Jumper is derived from a jumper that was worn by the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VIII

The Prince of Wales was painted by Sir William Orpen wearing this stunning jumper

The painting was commissioned by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland in December 1922 but due to considerable discussions between Orpen, the club and the Prince the picture was not completed for 5 years. It was hung in the Clubhouse in September 1927

Knitted in cappuccino and chocolate brown wools in lozenge design

100% Shetland Wool

These jumpers are sized by chest measurements – they are a snug fit

This image of the painting by Sir William Orpen of the Prince wearing the jumper was published in an American magazine

The text in the caption implies it was an interview with Prince Edward at some time in the 1930’s

The Duke is quoted as saying ‘ I have never been a good player, although I have made three holes in one. I am always well satisfied to break ninety’

Orpen died in 1931 and Prince Edward became King Edward VIII  in 1936 (he abdicated later the same year so he could marry the American divorcee Wallis Simpson and was then created Duke of Windsor)
