Welsh Baby Shawls

Our beautiful and authentic Welsh nursing shawls have hand twisted long tassels on all sides.  They are still made at a Welsh Water Mill to an historic design using techniques that have been handed down through generations of Welsh wool weavers

Welsh baby nursing shawls were originally used to ‘cwtch’ or carry a baby. The shawl, which is square in shape and usually fringed with hand twisted tassels, was folded into a triangle and draped over the shoulders and around the baby.  The right side was then taken under the arm and brought up around the baby's body, keeping the child warm and cosy and safely in place and leaving the mother’s hands free to work.

Each Welsh baby shawl measures183 cm x 183 cm and is available in three colours:
